METACHECK and METACALS are complete conformance analyzers for verifyingcompliance of metafiles containing device-independent picturedescriptions to the ANSI/ISO Computer Graphics Metafile (CGM) Standardand to the DoD CALS MIL-D-28 CGM application profile, respectively.Both metafile verification applications perform tests ranging frompass/no-pass to detailed analyses; detecting and reporting syntacticaland semantic errors; the use of private line, marker, and hatch patterntypes; and on the use of Escapes, Generalized Drawing Primitives (GDPs),and Application Data Elements.Compliance reports are used by application developers as a guide indebugging output from CGM-producing applications. Both developers andsoftware system integrators benefit from reports on the use of privateline types; markers and hatch patterns; and nonstandardized Escapes,GDPs, and Application Data Elements. Both conformance analyzers canaccept CGMs encoded in all three standard formats: character, binary, andclear text.
